Hiking Trails, white water rafting, and smoldering bonfires; Taylor River Lodge, Colorado. As soon as we stepped off the plane, we were overwhelmed by the extraordinary natural views that this unforeseen, remote part of Colorado had to offer. We landed at the Montrose Airport on Friday evening, where we immediately departed on an hour car ride through the picturesque snow-capped mountains, and into the gorgeous valleys hidden below.
Accompanied by our friendly guide, Andy, from the Taylor River Lodge and Eleven Experience, we were able to learn about the stress-free way of life that these staff members luckily have the opportunity to live in. Even before we laid eyes on the gorgeous Taylor River Lodge, we already fell in love with the longing mountainous terrain, rapidly changing climate, and vastly flowing rivers that carved the canyons for millions of years.
The best way to explain this demeanor is through the words of the staff members. They explain that living in Colorado is not only about living in such natural beauty but also the loving community and maintaining a stress free lifestyle. Even when the staff members are hard at work they handle every situation pleasantly with their teammates. Submerging ourselves in this lifestyle for just a weekend definitely left us with a memory forever.
The calm demeanor and stunning environment made a perfect combination. The Taylor River Lodge was filled with such quaintness and yet so luxurious. The setting of this property was tucked away into the allurement of the mountains and nestled next to a flowing river, which gave such melody to the area.
As soon as we walked into our cabin, where we were to stay for the weekend, we all felt as if we had jumped into a story book. The walls were made of reclaimed barn-wood, the décor fit the theme of the majestic old west, and at each bedside we were given gear for our adventurous weekend ahead of us.
Besides the adorable cabins made for guests, this vicinity also had a stunning pool and hot-tub that had an opening wall into the Colorado mountains. After a long day of hiking or white water rafting we would walk over to the pool in our cozy robes and submerge into the relaxing water which was also accompanied by a steam room and sauna. Everyday the Taylor River Lodge staff members would have outdoor activities planned for us, with all gear set up and ready to go. For our first adventure we decided to try out the Colorado white water rafting experience.
This was so unbelievably fun. Our guide was amazing through the Gunnison River and taught us all about the river and what it takes to conquer our first experience rafting. This activity was enthralling and reviving; with the mountain scenery, closeness with the water, and wildlife critters seen along the way made it something hard to forget.
The water was a bit cold, due to how early in the year it was for rafting. Luckily for us, we were greeting with the Taylor River Lodge staff with warm towels and tasteful snacks for our ride back to the sanctuary.
That evening we were wined and dined with paired wines and amazing local dishes. The dining area at the Taylor River Lodge was impeccable, with a roaring fire and delicious nightcaps to make sure we were warmed and lulled to bed with our full bellies and absolute happiness in mind.
Every morning, we were all filled with such excitement for our outdoor events. We would start every morning by having an amazing breakfast that was filled with homemade berry muffins, decadent breakfast pastries, and eggs in any style imaginable. Also as we would walk out the doors to start our day, they would hand us a mug of freshly brewed local coffee for the road, making for the perfect energy boosting start to every morning. Our second day adventure was filled with more adventures throughout the mountains. We were taken on a guided hike on a beautiful path and at the end our of our hike we were taken to the loveliest of picnics I have ever been on. (Images below)
Our adventures throughout the Colorado forest tuckered us out, but we heard so much about the town of Crested Butte. I am so glad we mustered up the energy for this visit because this town was more than delightful. It was filled with adorable shops and great places to eat. Every direction you look in this town, you are surprised with a spectacular backdrop of the beautiful mountain scape. (image below of part of the town)
This adventure was such a magical and touching time for all of us. With bonfire talks and excitement for our journeys, we could not have asked for a better vacation together.
